New York City[1] debuts in Fables #1 — "Chapter One: Old Tales Revisited" and is a major American city in the mundane world. This is where the secret Fable community of Fabletown is located.
History
Fabletown was formed centuries ago, when New York City was untouched fields and forests, and was known as New Amsterdam. As time passed, the city expanded around Fabletown until it became just a small enclave in a much larger urban area.[2]
Boroughs
The Bronx
Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee operated an office located within a building in the Bronx.[3]
Brooklyn
The wooden soldiers steal firearms from a gun store in Brooklyn.[4] One of Cinderella's safe houses is also located there.[5]
Manhattan
Fabletown is in the borough of Manhattan,[2] which is where most of the storyline of the Fables comics takes place.
Locations
Central Park
While investigating the Crooked Man, Bigby Wolf discovers that the magic door to the Crooked Man's lair is currently residing under the Gothic Bridge in Central Park, and rushes over to use it before it moves again.[6] Although not identified, some of the Fables are shown gathering by the so-called Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park on Remembrance Day.[7] Tommy Sharp later states that he watched Bigby transform into a wolf there.[8] A few weeks after this event, Bluebeard meets with Sharp in Central Park. Once Bluebeard has made sure that all of Sharp's documents regarding the Fables have been erased, he proceeds to kill him.[9]
