Meghan is a young mundy woman who lives with her uncle and cousin on a farm in Louisiana. She debuts in Fairest #27 — "Mister Fox Goes to Town: Chapter One of The Clamour for Glamour." Meghan becomes romantically involved with Reynard the Fox while he is in human form, after he is literally dropped into her life; and gives birth to their daughter, Fair Fox, while they're on the run together.

History

Background

Meghan lives on a farm in Louisiana with her uncle Bobby and cousin Joey. Following the death of her mother and father, she was passed from one family member to another, and her uncle was the only one who chose to take her in.

Meeting Reynard

One day, Meghan is absorbed in reading fairy tales, fantasizing about the arrival of her own dashing prince. Her delightful daydreams are suddenly interrupted by her uncle and cousin, who command her to prepare supper and attend to the cleaning of the floors.

Following Reynard the Fox's unsuccessful attempt to woo the recently widowed Snow White in his human guise, Snow's daughter Blossom seizes Reynard and flies him all the way to Louisiana, where he requests that she release him, causing him to fall down and land in the center of a haystack on Meghan's farm. Meghan diligently clears the hay away and finds him underneath. The suave Reynard, dressed impeccably in a striking suit, addresses Meghan as "princess," and she is convinced that he is her personal fairy tale prince.

Meghan allows Reynard to take refuge in the barn, providing care as he copes with a concussion. She offers to fetch him some food and to fix a tear in his jacket. Furthermore, she insists that he should remain hidden in the barn to avoid the gaze of her uncle and cousin, who are not fond of strangers. However, Reynard tires of being locked away in the barn all day, leading him to remove his clothing and quietly slip out in the guise of a fox. He witnesses Meghan as she attends to her cousin and uncle during dinner outside the house. Unfortunately, Meghan stumbles and spills the meal, provoking her uncle's ire. Reynard sneaks back into the barn, only to be accidentally hit on the head by a falling shovel. The next morning, Meghan finds him in his human form, lying naked as he nurses his injury. Without hesitation, Meghan initiates a sexual encounter. Afterward, as they lie naked together in the afterglow, they are unexpectedly found by Meghan's uncle and cousin.

Reynard is locked in the basement and Meghan is locked in her room. Having observed the manner in which Meghan's family interacts with her, coupled with overhearing their discussions about "tying something tight so it can't escape", and "looking for something that cuts good and deep," he jumps to the incorrect conclusion that they intend to kill her. However, Bobby and Joey are actually planning a party for her. Meghan is unaware that her uncle Bobby has disclosed to Joey that the reason why he has been hard on Meghan lately is because he hates the idea of her leaving them, as she is adept at running the house: Unbeknownst to Meghan, she has been accepted into college. Believing that Reynard was taking advantage of her, they tied him up, intending to release him after the party. Oblivious to their motives, Reynard shapeshifts into human form to escape, and then sets the barn on fire to rescue Meghan. At the very moment Joey is set to present Meghan with the cake, the fire is revealed. Meghan swiftly contacts the fire department, but Reynard grabs her and insists that she flee with him, leaving her relatives to struggle against the blaze.

On the run

Once the fire has been extinguished, Joey and Bobby erroneously conclude that Reynard has abducted Meghan. In the meantime, Meghan and Reynard are focused on their own survival. Reynard attempts to procure food for both of them, but Meghan intervenes, as she believes that theft is immoral. The pair eventually seek refuge in a deserted rural shack. Meghan is distressed that Reynard did not allow her the opportunity to retrieve a credit card, cash, or the spare keys to her uncle's pickup truck. Reynard admits that he wasn't thinking. Meghan expresses a desire to return home, doubting Reynard's claims regarding her family's intentions to harm her. However, upon discovering a newspaper article reporting the destruction of the farm in a fire, she comes to believe that her family has perished, leading her to conclude that returning is no longer an option. The two drift off to sleep side by side, and Meghan awakens to find Reynard transformed into a fox. As the fox reveals his identity as Reynard, she becomes alarmed and repeatedly strikes him with a stick. The following day, Reynard discovers some vegetables in the garden for their meal and recounts his tale to Meghan, who is left reeling from the dramatic changes in her reality.

The pair proceeds with their journey, during which Meghan encounters unusual cravings, nearly consuming an unwashed potato. They discover a homeless shelter operated by a church, which offers them nourishment. Meghan experiences a sense of bloating and develops an insatiable appetite, suddenly realizing that her belly has significantly enlarged. Meghan takes a pregnancy test and discovers that she is with child. She is bewildered by the rapid growth of her belly, considering it has only been a few days since they slept together. Reynard informs her that a fox's gestation lasts only 52 days, and she is carrying a cub. Meghan is filled with fear, having lost everything and now living rough with a man she hardly knows. However, she acknowledges that the one aspect of her life she wishes to preserve is her relationship with Reynard. Still, they require funds to support the child, which compels her to advocate for job hunting.

Consequently, both secure positions at a fast food establishment, with Meghan taking on the role of a server and Reynard working as a cleaner. One day, feeling fatigued from her advanced pregnancy, Meghan reclines in her employer's office, contemplating her concerns about the future and the potential form of her unborn child.

Motherhood

While Meghan is at work, her water breaks, prompting a customer to call upon a former midwife. Meghan successfully delivers a daughter who possesses a human body and a fox's tail. Both Meghan and Reynard are filled with joy at the arrival of their child; however, one of the customers takes a picture of the newborn and shares it online. Meanwhile, Bobby and Joey, who are looking for Meghan, come across the photo on Joey's cellphone.

Reynard appropriates a truck and drives Meghan along with their infant daughter to the Farm, as their child is imbued with magic and must not be exposed to the mundane world. Unbeknownst to them, the truck is owned by Meghan's uncle Bobby, who, together with Joey, had come to the fast food establishment in pursuit of Meghan. Bobby and Joey manage to hide in the truck bed under a tarp as Meghan and Reynard set off. The parents choose the name Fair Fox for their daughter, reflecting her fair hair and skin, and beauty.

Meghan and Reynard arrive at the Farm. The other residents' initial displeasure at seeing Reynard again fades away when they lay eyes on their new baby, a sight that melts everyone's hearts. Without warning, Meghan's family reveal themselves, causing the other residents to attack, but fortunately, Meghan successfully soothes everyone's nerves. She expresses her joy at seeing her family safe, and when Reynard mentions overhearing them discussing tying up and cutting, Bobby clarifies that the conversation was about balloons, leading Meghan to understand that the cutting referred to the cake. They disclose that Meghan has been accepted into college, and they were organizing a surprise party in her honor.

Overwhelmed with happiness at the news, Meghan feels uncertain about balancing her studies with motherhood. Reynard expresses his willingness to support her financially, mentioning that the Farm should have an ample number of babysitters available to volunteer. Joey and Bobby exhibit confusion regarding Meghan's baby, given that she has only been absent for two months. Meghan describes the situation as complicated, yet she is perplexed by Joey and Bobby's lack of concern regarding Fair's tail. However, her relatives attributes the issue to excessive inbreeding within the family. The two acknowledge the love shared by Meghan and Reynard, granting Reynard acceptance into their family. Following this, Reynard discloses his aspiration to establish a fairy tale kingdom for his new family. As the happy couple strolls through the Farm with their little daughter, Reynard boasts to Meghan about his role as a knight of New Camelot.
