~ The mail mice to Beauty, Fables #90 — "Ozma: Chapter Four of Witches" |
The mail mice, also known as the postal mice, are a trio of animal Fables who live on the Farm, first appearing in Fables #6 — "Road Trip: Part One of Animal Farm." They are in charge of delivering mail to the Farm's residents.
History
Goldilocks' revolution
As the Three Little Pigs chat with Snow White and Rose Red over tea inside their house, the three mail mice are in the middle of delivering a letter to the mailbox outside. Since the mailbox is too tall for them to reach, they set up a ladder which they can climb up it in order to access it.[3]
One of the mice aligns himself with Goldilocks' rebels in their scheme to overthrow the human residents of Fabletown. He is present when Rose Red arms herself in a cave, and eagerly asks[4] the ringleader[5] Dun if this is where the shooting starts.[4] He also watches while Weyland Smith is forced by the revolutionaries to chain Snow White up inside the cave.[6]
After several months, the mouse witnesses the execution of Dun and Posey, who were among the leaders of the revolution, by Jack Ketch.[7]
Life continue
One morning, as Rose Red is driving off to visit Peter Piper and his wife Bo Peep on the outskirts of the Farm, the intrepid squad of mail mice are already out, beginning their morning rounds.[3]
Threat of Mister Dark
To solve Fabletown's financial difficulties, Frau Totenkinder locates a secret stash of gold coins hidden within a fortress in Tiabrut. She has the gold shipped to the Farm[8] to solve Fabletown's financial difficulties.[9] The three mail mice knock on the door in the Farm's main building, telling the people inside to open the door in the name of mail. Beauty answers the door, but does not see anyone at first. However, the mice quickly draw her attention to their presence by urging her to look down. They inform her that they have a belated delivery for King Cole. Beauty accepts the small package from the mice and expresses her gratitude, but they insist that there is no need to thank them. They are dedicated to fulfilling their duties, regardless of the weather or time of day. When Cole opens the enchanted package, a large abundance of gold coins pours out.[8]
The glamour crusade
As Owl ponders what he can do to help his beloved Pussy Cat overcome her depression, he gets an idea. He shouts out to the tiny postal mice, telling them he has important messages that need to be delivered. Afterward, two mail mice locate Mister Sunflower and Rockford J. Raccoon and approach them with mail, explaining that they have been looking everywhere for them and have urgent letters for them both. Sunflower quips about the possibility of receiving gift vouchers for a free glamour, but the mice, with a sense of reluctance, acknowledge that this is not accurate, courteously stating, "Sorry." It turns out that Owl is seeking Raccoon and Sunflower's assistance in planning a romantic evening for him and Pussy Cat.[2]
