~ Holly to Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Fables: The Wolf Among Us #23 — "Chapter Twenty-Three" |
Holly is a Fable bridge troll who runs the Trip Trap bar in Fabletown in New York City. She first appears in Fables: The Wolf Among Us #10 — "Chapter Ten."
History
Bigby's investigation
Holly is bartending at the Trip Trap bar when Fabletown Sheriff Bigby Wolf arrives to look for the Woodsman. She is irritated by Bigby's presence, and poorly lies when asked about where the Woodsman is. Suddenly, the Woodsman walks out, and Holly asks him, "What are you doing," indicating that she was covering for him. The Woodsman engages in conversation with Bigby. Grendel interrupts and threatens him, after sharing his disgust at Bigby's inaction in finding Holly's missing sister Lily. He then sheds his glamour and attacks Bigby.[1]
In the midst of their brawl, Bigby gains the advantage by thrusting multiple darts from the dartboard into Grendel's skull. Holly intervenes, ordering Bigby to cease his assault and stating that Grendel has had enough; however, Bigby retorts that he will only stop when Grendel is completely unable to continue fighting.[4] After defeating Grendel, Holly voices her frustration about the damage to her bar caused by Bigby's fighting. He apologizes and directs her to send the bill to the Fableown Business Office, but Holly doubts they will cover the expenses.[3]
Lily's funeral
Holly is again seen at the Trip Trap when Bigby and Snow White go there to inform her of her sister Lily's death. Grendel is present as well as Jack Horner, who is asking an irritated Holly if she has spare darts for the dartboard, but Holly says that the first set got embedded in her best costumer's face. When Bigby enters, Jack is pleased at what might follow. He brings up the body that was found in the river, stating that two Fables are now dead, and Holly's sister has been missing for days. This leads to Holly asking if Bigby has any updates on Lily's whereabouts, and he tells her that the body found in the river was hers. Holly is heartbroken at the news, saying that maybe they could have saved her if they had gotten on the case sooner. Grendel starts berating Bigby and Snow, but, stops when a visibly upset Holly crushes a glass and a bottle in her hands.[2]
Initially, Holly tells Bigby and Snow to get out. But, after Snow White presents the brooch Lily was wearing, she asks Grendel to leave so she can talk to them. She explains that she and her sister didn't talk much, and that Lily got swept away by the city. Eventually, she reveals that Lily went into prostitution to pay off debt and worked at the Pudding & Pie strip club run by Georgie Porgie. She then asks if she can have Lily's body in order to cremate it as part of an old troll ritual. Snow White takes her down to the Business Office to make preparations for the funeral.[2]
Holly is present at her sister Lily's funeral under Buckingham Bridge, along with Grendel, Vivian, Nerissa and Snow White. As Snow White delivers a somber eulogy, Bigby enters to speak with her, causing Holly to become angry with him for appearing at such an inappropriate time.[5] When Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum also appear at the scene, Holly has had enough and is enraged at their presence interrupting Lily's funeral. She dispels her glamour and means to fight them. When Dee jokingly implores her not to make a fuss over Lily since she's "just a dead whore," Holly charges at them, but is quickly shot down and falls to the ground.[6]
After the funeral
Later at the Business Office when Bigby asks about Holly's condition, Dr. Swineheart tells him that he fixed her up and sent her home, though Holly didn't want to go home, so she was back at her bar.[7]
When Bigby later goes to the Trip Trap to search through Lily's things for a lead on where to find Ichabod Crane, he is instead greeted by Grendel and the Woodsman. Grendel informs him that Holly is in the backroom asleep from the medicine Dr. Swineheart gave them, and that she can't be woken up. After the Woodsman angrily leaves and Grendel passes out, Bigby goes into the backroom to find Holly asleep. He finds a box filled with Lily's possessions and starts to look through them when Holly drowsily wakes from her sleep. She mistakes him for the Woodsman, and she asks if Bigby truly cares. Bigby assures her that he does.[8]
Holly is present at the Crooked Man's trial at the Witching Well.[9] After he is found guilty for ordering the murders of Lily and Faith, Holly argues for him to be thrown down the well, but Bigby puts him in a holding cell until they can have a full, fair trial.[10]
