"Eternal: Chapter Nine of The Good Prince" is the sixty-ninth issue of Fables.

Publisher's summary

"The Good Prince," Part 9. All things considered, maybe Flycatcher should have remained a janitor. In the end, the heroic life turned out to be just too deadly. But how will the new Kingdom of Haven get along without Fly? Will people fade back into ghosts without his magic to sustain them? Will the Emperor overrun the kingdom now that Fly isn't there to stop him?

Plot

Before the wooden soldiers could kill him, Flycatcher sacrifices his whole suit of golden armor to turn all the soldiers into trees. This creates a Sacred Grove, like the one Geppetto had. This also will prevent Geppetto's from ever growing back. Boy Blue and Red Riding Rood leave Fabletown for Haven. Flycatcher asks Boy Blue if he can recruit Fables from the Farm to live in Haven. Flycatcher however, returns to Fabletown to do certain things like mopping and going to the movies.

Trivia

When the cubs are playing a game of pretend, one of the girls (we don't see which one) wants to be King Ambrose, but Darien, who is playing that part, snidely dismisses the idea, saying that girls can't be kings. This foreshadows Winter becoming King of the North in Fables #111 — "Windswept: Chapter Four of Inherit the Wind," and Darien's furious reaction at not being the one chosen.
