"Toy Boat: Chapter 1 of Cubs in Toyland" and the backup story, "A Revolution in Oz, Chapter One: The Treasure House" are contained in the one-hundred-and-fourteenth issue of Fables.
This is the first use of a new logo for the Fables series. The letters have now been normalised to the same size, the extension of the F has been removed, and the bottoms of the L, E & S characters are no longer sloped. Each letter is now almost always enclosed in a circle or diamond motif - though this was used on some issues with the original logo too (as early as Fables #33), the regularity is new. This logo is used on all future issues, including the revival series, until Fables #162.
Publisher's summary
The most harrowing epic since the series' inception starts when Snow and Bigby's cub Therese receives a Christmas gift from an unknown admirer. This red plastic boat may hold the key to a deep, disturbing secret that will incite a series of soul-crushing events for the denizens of Fabletown. This 8-issue storyline will boast a backup feature that follows Bufkin's (mis)adventures in Oz painted by fan-favorite Shawn McManus which will be a great entry point for new readers.
Plot
Toy Boat
Snow, overworked with parenting, banishes the kids to their rooms. At North Wind's castle, Bigby and Winter talk about her having the same dreams every night. At Wolf Manor, Therese's new toy boat talks to her and tells her to have to begin their journey. King Cole and the other fables find a different looking Nurse Spratt in a dungeon in Mr. Dark's castle. She is pretending to be friendly and hurt. Therese brings her magical toy boat to a little stream where both the boat and stream grow in size. The boat takes her to a special place for her.
